Vicksburg Military Park The park commemorates the campaign, siege, and defense of Vicksburg. Surrender on July 4, 1863, coupled with the fall of Port Hudson, LA, split the South, giving control of the Mississippi River to the North. |
Tupelo Military Park In June of 1864, Maj. Gen. William Sherman successfully kept Maj. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry corps in Mississippi at the Battle of Brices Cross Roads and away from the Federal supply line in Tennessee. To keep Forrest there in July, Sherman had to order another attack. |
